Launch of GIBCA 2023 – Presentation by Curator João Laia followed by a conversation with Artistic Director, Sarah Hansson. 

It is finally time to reveal the curatorial concept and present the majority of the participating artists in the 12th edition of the Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (GIBCA). 

João Laia, curator for GIBCA 2023, opens the program with an introduction to the curatorial concept and the participating artists. Following the introduction there will be a conversation between João Laia and Sarah Hansson, artistic director GIBCA. The conversation will, among other things, touch on how queer curatorial and artistic practices can challenge dominant notions of time, space and body; how, despite the many serious crises in the world, one can see our contemporary time as full of opportunities for change; and how, by affirming a broadened understanding of queer, can challenge dominant norms and open up for an integrated rethinking of the future.

Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (GIBCA) will take place at art centers and collaborative venues throughout the city of Gothenburg, from September 16 – November 19, 2023.
