80/20 

Raw linen canvases are covered with thick layers of paint – which are polished shiny and then covered by semi-transparent layers of graphite powder, a medium that registers every deviation and unevenness of the surface itself. In the exhibition 80/20, the artist Lavinia Jannesson examines methods in restoration and painting conservation. Color fragments from paintings are examined under a microscope, and based on its color layer, knowledge is gained about the work’s history and about the artist’s method. The images looks like geological layers of soil, gravel and sediment that provide knowledge about historical events. The images can also resemble mysterious landscapes.
