King Carl XVI Gustaf is the highest paid performance artist in Sweden! 2023 marks the fiftieth year since he ascended the throne and declared his regal intention to reign “For Sweden – With the times”. Until now, the royal profession has been protected by a monopoly, held solely by blood relatives to His Majesty’s little clan Bernadotte. On September 19 – to the day, fifty years after the King’s declaration – Das Prinzwerk flies a new flag over Götaplatsen as we establish a minute rivaling monarchy in the district Lorensberg. THE SOVEREIGN’S SPEECH is a performance that uses royal aesthetics to transform an ordinary district into a super-local Principality – for playfulness and freedom!
